Food and Supplies for Your Chihuahua Puppy

I feed and recommend Flint River Ranch dog food www.frrco.com.  If you have purchased a puppy from me this is what the little one has been eating since it was weaned.  Before their teeth come in I run the kibble through a blender and add a bit of water to make a soupy gruel.  As the pups grow, I add more and more kibble and less of the mashed up food.  By six weeks the puppies will be eating dry kibble which is left down for them all day and all night.  By eight weeks they are eating twice a day.

If your puppy is arriving via air shipment, a small amount will be taped to the top of the crate.  All new puppy owners, whether local or far away, will be shipped a free 6 lb. bag of Flint River Ranch dog food.  This food will come directly to your home address and should last you about one month or so.

You may choose to leave food down for your puppy all the time but I do not recommend this when you are working on housebreaking.  By the time you receive your little one, I will have them on a morning and evening feeding schedule.  The bag of food will give feeding recommendations but at this young age I let the puppies tell me how much they want to eat.  I usually start with 1/3 cup of food at each meal.  They rarely finish that much before 3 or 4 months but if they are going through a growth spurt they just might.  You will become attuned to your puppy's appetite and soon will know how much he or she will eat at each meal.  If the puppy is finishing very quickly be sure to offer more food as he or she might still be hungry.

Flint River Ranch is an excellent dog food.  The cost is comparable to most premium dog foods and all prices on the website include shipping.  When you are ready to reorder, you may e-mail me at pups@lakecountrykennels.com or you may go directly to the Flint River Ranch site which is www.frrco.com.  The site also has lots of neat treats, bowls, leashes and just about everything you might need for your new baby.  One thing which I always keep on hand for my "finicky" eaters is the Flint River Ranch Dry Water food.  It's awesome!  A small portion (48 oz.) will last a long time with a chihuahua!  It has a gravy like coating and dehydrated veggies in it.  Mix the food with hot water.  It makes a wonderful hot meal which all my dogs enjoy!
